Elora, Ontario Canada is one of the most creative little towns of Ontario. There’s not a lot there in terms of modern amenities but the town is filled with citizens committed to creativity and self exploration. Many little shops and galleries are there, some of which are the artists themselves showcasing their work.
I found myself wandering to Elora one boring afternoon in the fall of 2010 to take in the quiet but rich creative atmosphere it has become known for. Kreso Cavlovic was standing in his studio creating his next masterpiece as we walked around his small but wide variety of artwork styles on the walls. Kreso is exceptionally friendly and very welcoming. There’s something about his studio that grabs your eyes and imagination. It’s the colours… lots and lots of colour.
Immediately, I fell head over heels for his artwork and personal style within his work. One piece captured my eye and it was 7 Feet x 6 Feet in size. It spoke to me and I was so mesmerized by the feeling of emotion that it was projecting. Never before has a painting ever done that to me. I had found an artist that captures my emotions within his work.
Kreso offers 8 Week Courses in the middle of the winter starting in January. I took his Level One – Still Life course in January 2011 without hesitation because I couldn’t believe I would be able to learn to paint. After a few classes I was comfortable and really started saturating myself within his lessons. We worked on a still life painting as a first project together. I have never really looked at colours the way Kreso does. I’ve never noticed within one object that so many colours do exist. After 8 weeks, I was so happy with it that it encouraged me to seek more.
I was so convinced by the positive working space that I signed up again this past January for Level Two – Abstractions. We aren’t in a white room learning painting techniques with acrylic paints, but instead we work within his studio to be immersed within the colours and ideas surrounding us on the walls. This year, his course availability booked up really fast. Next year, January 2013, I am sure it’s going to get booked up even faster.
Having been going to the studio for two years, there’s many things I have learned. His work doesn’t stay on the walls long. Kreso is known to sell his work half completed because people are loving the vision and his work on the walls prove his skills and technique levels. This is one studio where sitting on the fence of indecision about purchasing an original Kreso Cavlovic piece isn’t recommended because people are captivated by his work and respond quickly when purchasing. He has a high ratio of purchasers that come back and buy more pieces.
Gallery Vernissage is Kreso’s personal studio in downtown Elora. Kreso has been posting his latest works on his Facebook Fan Page. His latest abstractions have been leaving people in awe with vivid colours and imagination. If you ever get to Elora Ontario, be sure to slip into his studio and see his creations for yourself.
