I love Creativ Festival because of the connections and creative freedom it showcases. I wouldn’t know what to do with my spare time, other than watch TV, if I didn’t have a crochet hook. Sharing my passion with others makes me light up with joy.
I met Rebeca, and her daughter, Rebeca for the first time at Creativ Festival in October 2011. Enthusiastic to meet me, they had driven from Columbus Ohio to say hello and thanks for the videos. Rebeca (mom) was so excited and knew I would be at the festival, she convinced her daughter to join her for the journey.
We had wonderful conversations at several points on the first day and they were excited about their own creative passions at the same time. It was pure excitement and joy for all of us. We bonded through humour and creativity at the same time. Creativ Festival gave us a forum which had brought us together.
I saw both of these women the next morning as I made my way to a workshop to teach. Rebeca (Mom) was exhausted and pushing her daughter on the scooter with all her might. So excited the day before, they had forgotten to recharge the scooter over night; unfortunately, it had died.
I will never forget the words of pure love coming from Rebeca (Mom) as we walked together that morning. She had the option to leave her daughter at the hotel and experience the festival for the second day on her own. She was committed to her daughter’s well being and sharing precious moments together, she would rather struggle to push her manually through the festival then leave her daughter behind.
In that very moment I thought to myself, there is living proof of unconditional love. Rebeca (Mom) was my hero and I have to say… I had a deep feeling within of such compassion for this relationship.
I sometimes think back to this moment when things aren’t working out so great and remember there is still humanity left within us. I love Creativ Festival as the amount of memories derived from every show I have attended are memories of joy and happiness that I will have for a lifetime.
