One of the most luxurious yarns on the show floor is muskox fibres by Jacques Cartier Clothier.
This is one of those fibres where the animals are monitored but are not confined or killed for their coats. Their story is fascinating.
What is Qiviuk?
Once a year, when the long rays of sunlight gradually begin to pierce the Arctic’s winter darkness, the frozen tundra transforms into a landscape of luxury as rumbling herds of Muskox begin to show their downy undercoat called Qiviuk (kiv-ee-uk or kiv-ee-ut). A fibre softer than cashmere and warmer than wool.
This exquisitely soft undercoat is an exceptionally fine and precious fibre that protects this prehistoric mammal (that once roamed with the mastodons) against the extreme cold of the Canadian High Arctic.
Qiviuk employs Arctic residents to gather the naturally fallen fibres from these majestic creatures as the herds migrate. The muskox are very protective of each other and their babies. It is a long and patient process to ensure the well-being of the animals. Fibres are then shipped back to Qiviuk in British Columbia where they are then processed. Celebrities such as Sara Jessica Parker have been known to wear Jacques Cartier Clothier Inc. clothes as well as the Queen of England and more.
Experience luxury and hear their story at Creativ Festival this fall. Find them in booth #417 on the show floor.
