Canadian Alpaca Fibre Works presents… www.canadianalpacafibreworks.ca
Sock Knitting on a Circular Antique Machine
Inherited a circular antique machine from your grandmother’s closet, looked at it and thought what the heck is this for? Ever wonder how to set one up? Do I have all the parts? How do I clean it? And, finally, how do I create a pair of socks? Join Melody Macdonald, sock expert, Alpaca Farmer and member of CAFW for the answers to all this and more. She’ll introduce you to the mechanics of this amazing machine and get you acquainted with the set up and operation. You’ll understand what all the parts are for and how to use them, how to deep clean, take apart and reassemble, plus tips on maintenance and storage. But most of all you’ll learn how to turn out a pair of socks!
Discovery Centre – Fri 1:30 . Sat 10:30
Beryl Tsang is a Toronto artist, breast cancer survivor, essayist, mother and all round raconteur who can usually be found at the Nuevo Norte Alpaca farm on weekends. She is co-owner with pilot Glenn Goldman of AirCrafting: Aviation Arts and Chief Executive Knitter of Tit-Bits: Hand Knitted Breasts.
Fibre artist and alpaca lover Beryl Tsang will be needle felting the Creativ Festival’s very own (mini) alpaca herd using fleece from local farmers. Join her as she demonstrates the versatility of this wonderful fibre. Watch her wrap, manipulate and make the cutest creatures ever in a full range of natural colours. You may be inspired to take up needle felting yourself.
