Ellen Mervin began to stitch in her early teens because her mother was a knitter and, like a little elf in the middle of the night, fixed and finished every project Ellen began. She had to find a craft that her mother didn’t do… that left stitching. She stitched on and off for many years, finding it relaxing and rejuvenating. In fact, Ellen often credits her stitching as the reason that her four children, born in less than six years, have lived to adulthood.
Ellen began Ruach Crafts in 2008 and currently has the largest selection of Judaic and Celtic needlecraft kits and patterns in Canada. Her company is also the Canadian distributor of DoveStitch material and more recently became the exclusive distributor of SaggiTaurus’ military and Anne of Green Gables designs.
Today, Ellen’s children not only help to cover her booth space, but are developing a social media presence, working on her website, teaching, stitching models and doing the myriad of paperwork that is involved. It is truly a family business.
Ellen has begun to design Judaic, Celtic and Chinese designs and she and her family can be seen at a large variety of Highland Games and Irish Feis’ in Ontario and Quebec, some historical events and the Creativ Festival. www.ruachcrafts.com or email ruachcrafts@live.com
