Sue Firsker Paints with Fibres…
“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments it takes our breath away.” says Sue Firsker.
I consider myself very lucky. I have always made my living by doing what I love to do. Really, I feel that I have not worked a day in my life (my bank account reflects that), but I have derived much joy and satisfaction from what I create. And this is priceless. There is something so guttural about creativity, maybe it is my African roots I respond to, when I say guttural, because Africa is… colour, warmth, and splendid wildlife! And, I come to live in this country, of cold, of snow, of icebergs, freezing rain, a crazy combination? Right? But see what happens… Cozy warm wool felt and African colour.
The Discovery of Felting
I discovered felting about 6 years ago and fell instantly in love! I am a painter at heart, in various mediums, but to discover felt as a means to express myself, in a painterly way, is truly fabulous. This is where I started. Then I discovered other creative uses for felt and fibre. This is for me, just the beginning!
I hope that my work gives you great pleasure and might even take your breath away, for a moment!
