Learn from a Custom Clothier…
Lorna Rae is a custom clothier, owner of Blue Heron Stitchery and an award-winning wearable artist. Never able to pass by a luscious fabric without imagining what she could make from it, she has been happily creating garments for over 30 years. Her love of classic lines and tailoring led to many years of creating jackets, coats and a healthy dose of prom and bridal wear, plus she’s designed custom garments for clients of independent fabric shops.
After sewing for, and fitting hundreds of women, she believes that… we women are a wild and wonderful bunch and we all deserve to look great!
Lorna teaches sewing technique and fitting classes and is a Certified Islander Sewing Systems Instructor having mastered the industrial shortcuts used in the ready-to-wear garment industry. After viewing a fibre art exhibit a decade ago, she was motivated to achieve a Textile Art Certificate from St. Lawrence College. Augmenting this by summer classes at the Haliburton School of the Arts, Lorna felt like she was being let out of school to play!
She loves to put the unexpected in each garment she creates, be it classic or modern-day edgy.
