In memory of a friend and quilter, that left her sewing room far too soon.
Lea’s Quilt—Scrappy Cabin Series…
This quilt is pieced and quilted in strips, then assembled and finished. Designed as a “clearing of the sewing room”, group endeavor or a whimsical “use up the scraps” or “quarters” project.
“Lea was my friend, ardent supporter, “guinea pig” and editor. She was among the first to enroll years ago in my classes and continued to follow and guide as my interests evolved to quilt and pattern design. In her “pre quilt” life Lea was a busy mother, wife and corporate executive. In retirement she traded her office for a sewing room and added the roll of very proud Grandmother to the list. As a quilter she was enthusiastic, inquisitive, exacting, experimental and creative. Lea became ill in the summer of 2013 and passed away very soon after in hospice.”, quilt artist Valerie Miller.
The Lea’s Quilt Project is an ongoing endeavor; created in the spirit of giving and support, to make best use of the fabulous “stash” that was Lea’s sewing room. This spring at the Creative Festival we are inviting everyone to take a few minutes to stop at the “Project”; an in booth workshop to sew smaller “Scrappy Cabin” quilts to be donated to Jessie’s, The June Callwood Centre for Young Woman. For those participating in the workshop, there will be a kit draw and charity project kits will be available. Get further details at the Valerie Miller/Lea’s Quilt Project booth # 340.
