Big Village Beads, a fair trade, earth friendly and eye catching bead business joins us at Creativ Festival this spring.
Big Village started when the orginal owner returned to Canada after living in Ghana with her family doing mission work. She brought back cultural beads and other handicrafts to give away as gifts. She found that there was an overwhelming, positive response and an interest in both the products and the culture they came from. Loreli happily set up fair-trade partnerships with her friends in Ghana. She saw this as an opportunity to connect the two cultures – promoting Ghana in a way that emphasizes the resourcefulness, ingenuity and beauty of the people.
Big Village Beads are comprised of recycled glass. Workers crush the glass into fine pieces and mould it using clay moulds, then firing them once again to get a new shape. Each bead is hand formed — the holes are inserted and the glass is ensured to have all smooth edges. The beads are carefully hand painted and fired in the ovens once again. The birth of original beads have been created.
Once the beads are done, the beads are then worked into one of a kind jewellery that is offered. If you have a moment, take a quick gander at their small sampling of finished products that they offer.
