Registered Nurse Turns to Quilting for Relaxation

An Opportunity to Learn with Peggy…

Peggy Kwan, Creativ Festival

Peggy Kwan Teaches at Creativ Festival

Peggy Kwan is a registered nurse who worked in a very busy emergency dept. in Toronto for 26 years before her retirement. Quilting is something she finds and uses to relax. After learning traditional quilting patterns and techniques she branched out quickly into designing her own quilts using her methods. She loves colour, sees the possibilities of fabric differently and brings the influence of her Chinese background into her work. Her personal favourites are three dimensional origami quilting and turning a cheater panel into a piece of art. She enjoys blending her east and west sensibilities in her quilts and wall hangings.

She looks for ideas in magazines, books and pictures but it is her interpretation of what she sees that makes her quilts unique. She believes there is no right or wrong in quilting and students in her classes are encouraged to be adventurous and experiment by moving away from the colours and patterns they normally select to trying new techniques.

Peggy had been a guest teacher at the Creativ Festival for many years. She also teaches in different quilt stores and has being invited as a guest speaker/teacher at different quilt guilds across Southern Ontario. She is a member of York Heritage, Markham Guild of Village Crafts and Markham Town Quilters’ guilds. www.PeggyKwan.com
