Learn Fashion Design Tips with Susan Lazear at Creativ Festival.

Eastern designers such as Issye Miyake and Rei Kawakubo have a knack for designing unique garments from simple rectangles and squares. Susan introduces you to jackets, tops, wraps and a process by which to analyze designer garments in the eastern mode. Knitters and sewers alike will benefit from this class. Plan to gain an appreciation for historic, ethnic and modern design. Bring: Graph paper to make patterns.

Patterns: Fit & Creativity (All Levels)

If you need to change your patterns to improve the fit, or if you like to mix and match components from different patterns, then you need some basics to assist you in the process. Come study the anatomy of a pattern and how to make changes for style and fit. Patternmaking logic and creative techniques will be demonstrated.

1.5 Hour Seminar – Fri 9:00 to 10:30

 

From Fashion Windows to Sewing Machine (All Levels)

Let the fashions in store windows and fashion exhibits in Europe inspire you to be more creative in your design world. We’ll travel through France and Italy, gleaning ideas from our overseas friends. Techniques will be discussed and sewing how-to’s shared.

1.5 Hour Seminar – Sat 9:00 to 10:30

 

Knock-offs & Adaptations (All Levels)

The process of ‘knocking off’ and/or adapting a garment is really not that difficult. Susan will show you how to analyze photos, pictures and even actual garments to determine how one creates them, either by modifying existing patterns, or by creating your own with pattern design software. Learn how to analyze your fit preferences, determine the design details and translate these to a paper pattern. You will be amazed at how easy the process can be. Demonstration will be with paper patterns and Garment Designer software. For non-computer and computer people.

Twenty Pattern Guidelines (All Levels)

If you alter or create your own patterns, then it’s time you increase your knowledge of pattern rules that professionals know and understand. See how simple it can be… if you understand the basics. Study the anatomy of a pattern, learn how to change it properly and how to relate ease to fit.
